The Thomas Cookie Co

Those of you who have been reading my blog for sometime now have probably realised what a ridiculous cookie monster I am! Is there anything better than that warm cookie smell filling the house and eating hot cookies out the oven with a dollop of vanilla ice cream??? I’d be hard pushed to think of anything!

img_5039

I’ve tried lots of cookie “dough” companies where the dough is designed to be eaten raw straight out of the pot (they don’t use egg in the ingredients to make the recipe safe to eat), but I haven’t tried many pre-baked cookie companies…..yet!

I came across The Thomas Cookie Co on Instagram and after looking at their brilliant website and all of the amazing flavours they had to offer, I knew I had to put an order in!

The first ones I tried were the S’mores flavour – two Belgian milk chocolate cookies sandwiched together with sticky gooey marshmallow! Delicious, although a bit messy! The kids will love these! They are pretty big too…..

img_5035

img_5038

The second flavour I tried was the Caramel Cookie Cup. These are little cup shaped cookies filled with caramel and then topped with chocolate! Stick these in the oven for a few minutes until the cookie cup is warm and the centre is melted and gooey – amazing! These are only small in comparison with the S’more’s cookies so you’ll find you will get through a box of four VERY quickly…

img_5042

The final flavour I tried was the Brookie which is a cross between a brownie and a cookie! The base is a Belgian milk chocolate cookie and the top is a double chocolate brownie! A great combination which again tastes delicious straight out of the oven!

img_5051

img_5047

These are only three of the huge range of flavours available, others include Nutella cookie cups, peanut butter cookie cups, salted caramel and pecan and pistachio, dark chocolate and smoked sea salt.

You can order the cookies in batches of 4 or 8 and one of the things I love about this company is that if you buy two boxes or more, you get free delivery! I have honestly got as far as the checkout point of ordering with other cookie companies to find they were going to charge me £20 for delivery! After seeing this ridiculous delivery cost of course I abandoned my purchase with them.

The Thomas Cookie Co are well worth checking out – great service and delicious cookies – plus they are ideal to send as presents to someone who deserves a treat! Who sends flowers anymore anyway???

London at Christmas Time

My Sister, my Mum and I visit London every December to get into the Christmas spirit and god did London put on a show this year! Everywhere was adorned with stunning oversized Christmas trees and decorations and lights – it really was breathtaking!

Here are some of the incredible sights we came across during our travels around the city;

First stop after getting off the coach was (and always will be!) Dominique Ansel’s for breakfast and some of their sweet treats! As usual they didn’t disappoint!

1DAE2071-D3B5-407A-BEBD-C47875F4A1B6

The outside and inside decorations have been updated to a beautiful white theme, a stark contrast to its last theme which was Halloween/Autumnal colours.

82A581FC-A501-44AB-B06E-19C3A7DF1599

I had my usual turkey croque monsieur and tried this incredible chocolate Pinecone. Inside was a gingerbread flavoured mousse and biscuit base! Amazing!

I also tried Dominique Ansel’s cinnamon roll latte which had a toasted marshmallow on top and tasted incredible!

3A465DF0-2589-4505-9EA4-AAE30697A671

Other Dominique Ansel treats looked pretty spectacular too!

B4888D26-E5AF-46D5-A932-17B96148D2C0

I also couldn’t resist buying a box of Christmas morning cereal – I can’t wait to try this!

Second stop was Peggy Porschen’s – I can’t visit London now without buying a box of their amazing cupcakes to bring home with me!

Along the road from Peggy’s was Les Senteurs – how amazing are these oversized baubles which appear outside?!

The flower shop next to Les Senteurs is called Moyses Stevens and has the most beautiful bouquet and flower arrangements I’ve seen. The ceiling is also adorned with flowers and so it is well worth a visit!

I would highly recommend a visit to Somerset House if you have the chance – they have a huge beautiful Christmas tree outside the front and if you have the time you can also go ice skating here too!

523DB613-444E-4B5A-B318-232445BF41F1

Our next stop was Covent Garden, I can’t believe out of all the times I have visited London I have never visited here! It is a stunning place and the festive decorations were out in full force! I loved the giant mistletoe pieces which were hanging from the ceiling and the giant reindeer, giant Christmas tree and decorated car were stunning to look at too!

EEECA4E5-C28F-4F0F-A04A-9B423DD0FF6C

We’ve walked past Fortnum and Mason so many times but have never actually ventured inside! Can you believe it?? It is like a tardis when you go inside – I can’t believe how big it is!

7BE83D08-B66A-464E-A9AD-536FB9C06CDD

Such a beautiful place with so many festive goodies on sale – how great do their cupcakes look??

Claridges currently has a lovely Christmas display outside! I love stars! I should have ventured inside though because they have a display called a love tree inside! Instagram it and you will see what I mean!

The Ivy restaurant looked beautiful….

0FCFD517-3428-4F5A-8A38-86E8AAFB160B

Oxford Street never disappoints at Christmas time!

4A6AB754-C415-4E67-A6AB-E5C72B3D44D2

And neither did Harrods…

E4A78D7E-E354-4AC5-AB65-DEA2CE21F3F5

And if you only visit one place this festive season to see the decorations, it has to be Annabel’s! I could take a million photos of this festive display and it still would not do it justice! It is incredible!

384FB084-39F9-49DE-B644-B1441E541971

and if all of that isn’t enough, we even came across a Christmas sheep on our travels!

Bear’s Brownies

If any of my readers have a thing for brownies then I think I may have found the holy grail! Thank you Instagram for another amazing find called Bear’s Brownies!

They don’t just do your every day chocolate brownies, they have wide range of flavours to choose from and even have a “free from” menu which is suitable for vegan diets and those of us who have allergies, such as lactose free, dairy free, egg free and low sugar brownies.

Here are just some of the flavours you can order from Bear’s Brownies;

Billionaires Brownies

These are my absolute favourite and are to die for!

These are luxury chocolate brownies with a caramel layer which is then topped with a dark chocolate ganache and gold leaf! They are beyond delicious and even got the seal of approval from hubby who is not at all a fan of sweet treats and desserts! I think it is safe to say that these were his favourites too!

Blondies

These are brownies but are made with white chocolate rather than milk chocolate. They are much lighter than a traditional brownie and are ideal for those who prefer white chocolate to milk chocolate, or vanilla cake rather than chocolate.

0F90D6B3-1091-40A5-B2E3-A3A09900B6A1

Funfetti Brownies

I love the look of these!

3A33376F-F9F9-4E9F-A921-76A1E6A64665

They are perfect for a Birthday celebration – they are white chocolate blondie brownies but filled with Birthday cake colourful sprinkles!

E26149BA-A8F8-4EAF-BFD2-DBA5D6AB5F2F

Mocha Brownies

Dark chocolate and espresso flavoured brownies – perfect as an after dinner treat with coffee! I love coffee flavoured desserts!

Cookies Brownies

Crunchy Oreo cookie pieces folded through traditional chocolate brownies, perfect for  cookies and cream lovers!

Chocolate Fudge Brownies

The classic chocolate fudge brownie flavour, you can’t go wrong with these! Not the most exciting of the bunch but still a really tasty original style brownie!

4D4226FD-712E-43B6-9E14-88BC782E97B9

Salted Caramel Brownies

These are a close second favourite – salted caramel flavoured brownies with a salted caramel centre and chocolate ganache icing and then sprinkled with crushed pretzels and shimmer!

73F65C8B-7C8B-45BF-920D-B3FF5EC33B86

Salty and sweet and amazing all at the same time! Plus they look AMAZING!

Bears Brownies also supply seasonal flavours such as Red Velvet Valentine’s Day brownies and Christmas Candy Cane and Christmas Gingerbread brownies! I’m definitely going to order some Christmas flavours this year!

One of the things I love about Bear’s Brownies is that you can order boxes of 12 or 24 but they don’t have to be a box of the same flavour. If you order a box of 12 you can choose up to three different flavours and if you order a box of 24 you can order up to six different flavours! Ideal if you are struggling which flavours to choose from! Note that you can’t order the Billionaire’s Brownies as part of the “fill your own” boxes but I promise you you won’t regret ordering (and scoffing!) a box of 12 of these!

8C69D048-282A-44A3-88D1-41453B7E7C70

The other thing I loved was that the brownies arrived beautifully packaged in a black box with a ribbon on, and were securely packaged up to make sure they weren’t damaged during transit.

643F5AD4-23E3-405C-9CD7-C3AA38D00D28

You can also add hand-written gift messages free of charge to your order if you like and can choose a delivery date which is suitable for you. Bear’s Brownies deliver all over the country so are ideal to send as gifts to people!

FACB6DB4-AAEC-4131-84B7-9A89CEC0684E

I cannot recommend these brownies enough, I already can’t wait to put in my next order!

The Naked Bakery

Well you all know by now what a cake and sweet treats fanatic I am so here is another one of my absolute favourite online bakery’s!

FF16C08B-B055-49A8-AF8D-62B837006DF7

I came across The Naked Bakery on Instagram. What I love most about them is that they offer a wide variety of goodies rather than just specialising in cakes or cupcakes – they offer everything from macarons and meringues to doughnuts and even wedding cakes!

They are called The Naked Bakery because they offer products which are gluten free, plant based, RAW and vegan. All their products are free from dairy, eggs and any animal products, and if you want your products to also be gluten free you have this option too when you order!

I’ve placed a couple of orders with the Naked bakery over the past few months and the products I have ordered have always been brilliant! Their treats not only look but taste incredible

Here are some of the lovely things I’ve ordered from this fantastic bakery so far;

Unicorn Macarons

The unicorn macarons come in boxes of six or twelve and you can pretty much have any flavour you want!

Just a few of the flavours include vanilla, strawberry, lemon, mint, caramel, peanut butter and jam, red velvet, cookie dough, candy floss and bubble gum! Amazing choices!

So far I have tried the cookie dough, bubble gum and candy floss flavours and they were all delicious!

Unicorn Cupcakes

This is probably my favourite product from the Naked Bakery! I’ve ordered a batch of Unicorn Cupcakes with every order I’ve made so far!

1CB2B962-55C6-4835-BEF0-5C784D8470DB

You can order Unicorn cupcakes in any flavour you like including candy floss and bubble gum!

0BE48397-0F60-4107-ACB1-84417D863967

If you choose a vanilla sponge base they will colour the sponge to any colour you like or as multi coloured. They look and taste fantastic and the pictures really don’t do them justice! Perfect for a Birthday party (or to scoff all to yourself just as I have done!)

Oreo Cupcakes

A chocolate flavoured cupcake filled and topped with Oreo flavoured icing and a glittery Oreo biscuit! The icing on top and the Oreo flavoured filling is delicious and these cupcakes are real show-stoppers!

7B5D1D22-1B02-4BEC-A49E-DB46DDABE000

White Chocolate and Raspberry Skull Cupcakes

Don’t these look AMAZING?? Again the pictures really don’t do them justice!

DBCF64DA-C527-4613-9019-D137CA95257B

A raspberry and white chocolate sponge topped with a marbled white chocolate buttercream and then topped with a hand painted rose gold coloured skull. I’m definitely going to order some of these around Halloween this year!

So as you can see, they have some fantastic products! I’m hoping to do another order with them very soon but there is just one downside to Naked Bakery – their online shop is often closed due to being fully booked with orders!

You can access the Naked Bakery shop and check product availability here.

At the moment the Naked Bakery are also running a “kickstarter” campaign with the aim of opening a shop to sell all their delicious goodies from!

They only have until 8th July to reach their goal, so please donate if you can! You can read more about their campaign here. All pledges receive something in return, I’ve got everything crossed that they will meet their target on time!!

Popaball Drink Shimmers

I first wrote a review over a year ago on Popaball’s amazing Rose Gold shimmer for prosecco, but things have come on a long way since then and Popaball now have a range of SIX of these amazing drinks shimmers, so I thought it was time to write an updated blog!

03EA7E21-7F79-4EAE-9D6A-CDEBB9A69D5F

Here is the full range of lovely drink shimmers you can currently get from Popaball;

Violet Shimmer

This one tastes delicious! It is blackcurrant flavour and can be used in any drink from champagne to lemonade!

Simply add 1/3 of a teaspoon of the shimmer to a glass of drink which is about half full and watch your drink turn a multicoloured unicorn effect until the bubbles settle, revealing your drink as a beautiful violet purple colour.

40F5A797-961D-4CF8-844F-A76EC132D9F4

This can also be used in cocktails as an alternative to creme de cassis! It is my favourite shimmer flavour-wise!

FE8BBE99-32BD-42F0-AABF-D53DBD247D3E

Rose Gold Shimmer

The original drinks shimmer – I love this stuff! I bought several packs when it was released and it was brilliant to take to parties and on girls nights out to jazz up your prosecco. I’ve also bought several as gifts for family and friends!

Everyone loves the shimmery rose gold effect it creates in prosecco! It is raspberry flavoured and also contains edible gold leaf hearts!

2526E219-0DE5-4710-B12A-B77EFBDEBAF8

Just fill your glass 3/4 full with prosecco, slowly sprinkle in 1/3 of a teaspoon of the shimmer powder, watch it bubble up and then reveal a beautiful rose gold shimmering unicorn style prosecco! My favourite overall shimmer from the selection so far!

9DF74544-CF6D-44C3-8731-5D5A00755CF5

Blue Pearl shimmer for Gin

This shimmer is designed to be used in gin and tonics, however, I don’t like gin so I have been drinking this in my prosecco just like the other flavours!

The Blue Pearl is blueberry flavoured and (if you are using it in your gin and tonics) you just need to fill 1/2 a glass with ice, add 25ml of gin, and top with tonic water, slowly sprinkle in 1/3 teaspoon of the shimmer powder and watch your gin bubble and then reveal a beautiful blue pearl mermaid style shimmery drink!

91576A11-8985-44B1-A707-5A9FE948F312

If, like me, gin isn’t your thing, then as with the violet and rose gold shimmer, simply add 1/3 of a teaspoon in with your prosecco/champagne/lemonade or whatever you happen to be drinking!

A514E056-3E9E-4488-8D0C-AC54552AA51A

Popaball’s latest releases are the Gold, Silver and Bronze drink shimmers which are designed for any drink as they are completely flavourless. As with all the others just fill your glass 2/3 full with a sparkling drink of your choice and add 1/3 of a teaspoon of shimmer, watch it bubble up and then reveal either a lovely gold, silver or bronze coloured shimmery drink!

Gold Drink Shimmer

I was looking forward to trying the gold one most of all as gold is my favourite colour and we had gold and cream as our wedding colours!

When I used it for the first time I wish it had been around when we had got married – we could have put some in everyone’s toasting champagne so it matched our wedding theme!

A586CBBE-35DC-46C1-97A7-8459DE446CC0

The gold one is lovely – really effective and really shimmery!

BB0E3220-7903-483D-A915-2BBE5B2E5C52

Silver Drink Shimmer

This was the colour I was least bothered about out of the three, and when I first sprinkled the powder in I thought it didn’t have much of an effect….

However once all the bubbles have gone and you give the drink a good swirl, the silver colour is actually one of the most effective shimmers of the range!

B38E3F83-A710-4F64-B1D7-0F2AD2986EE4

Again, if you are getting married this year and silver forms part of your colour theme, I would highly recommend the silver shimmer if one of your arrival or toasting drinks is prosecco or champagne!

7C421A66-318C-45CC-9CDC-8FC3945AC279

Bronze Drink Shimmer

I wasn’t too sure about this one as although I love bronze/copper colours at the moment, I thought the colouring might be a little bit too dark….. how wrong I was!

It’s true this is the darkest of all the colours from the range but it is also the most shimmery and effective.

F6AA292A-40EE-4607-8F45-E39C64241A9F

The pictures really don’t do it justice – I thought this had the best “shimmering” effect by far – maybe because the colour is so dark the golden glitter and sparkles stand out far better? This one is definitely another favourite of the range and will probably be the go-to shimmer as unlike my other favourites, the violet and the rose gold, this one is flavourless and so will go with any type of drink!

DC2CCCF7-FDEF-46BB-AD34-4C2E0D4D746E

I really highly recommend you trying them, the pictures really don’t do the shimmers justice and they are great for all kinds of occasions!

The shimmers cost £7.49 each, are 21 gram packs and each pack contains approximately 21 servings, so although the pots look small, they do last ages!

53A37CB8-7ABD-4689-B166-C4AAEF463A99

Add more shimmer than recommended if you would like a greater effect and taste, but add only a little at a time because the shimmer does cause the drinks to fizz up and overflow if you aren’t careful! I’ve been caught out many times with this!

I wouldn’t add anymore than the recommended amount of the violet shimmer as the blackcurrant taste of this shimmer is quite strong and you only need a little bit for a great taste effect!

I have placed multiple orders with Popaball over the past year or so for their shimmers and bubbles, (and that doesn’t include their products I’ve bought from my local Lakeland), but over the Christmas period they sent me a free double pack of their bursting bubbles to say thank you for my custom over the past year!

50D5D19C-C94A-4E2C-987C-E39AA128E3CF

I thought this was a really lovely touch and customer service at its best! Thank you Popaball, it was much appreciated!

You can buy the whole range of shimmers and bubbles online at Popball’s website.

NellieNoo Fudge

Ok, so you’ve probably all realised by now that I have a really sweet tooth! Cakes, biscuits, cake pops, cheesecakes, meringues, marshmallows… you name it, I’ve tried stuffing my face with them! One of my all time favourite sweet treats, however, will always be some good old fashioned fudge!

I came across NellieNoo fudge when I was Instagram stalking for some new treats and really couldn’t choose between the wide range of flavours which were on offer! In true Chloe style I couldn’t make a decision on just a couple of flavours so I ordered a huge batch! Here’s what I thought of the fabulous flavours I’ve tried so far:

Malted

CE92EEFC-2F5B-4AFF-9033-4FE6F052F55D

The Malted flavour is a milk Chocolate based fudge and is deliciously creamy and malty tasting (think Malteasers flavour!). It is also one of Nellie Noo’s best sellers!

32B814A8-7D2B-4333-98B1-8C97C16A4F53

Salted Caramel

927B4987-FCCC-4EEF-872A-11DE251F7CF2

I love anything Salted Caramel flavour! I can’t get enough of it at the moment! The Salted Caramel flavour is a milk chocolate based fudge with loads of Salted Caramel stirred throughout. It’s lovely and creamy but you can also taste the crunchy chunks of salted caramel when you eat it! Another one of Nellie Noo’s best sellers and once you have tasted it, its easy to see why! This is my definite favourite!

5C6CA556-7B3A-4AC5-8B9C-12DA1989B5D5

Tiramisu

82DAD4B2-1617-4919-B8EE-E423AD7BED59

The Tiramisu is brilliantly designed fudge! A dark chocolate rich, crumbly based fudge which combines the flavours of espresso and lady finger biscuits and is then sprinkled with cocoa powder! Just like a real Tiramisu! Perfect to serve with after dinner coffee!

BED4AC46-7E31-412B-A76C-1A0A9575DCD8

Cookies and Cream

6FD54C7C-6ED3-4C92-A698-CC52E60C78CA

The Cookies and Cream is a white chocolate based fudge and is filled with cream filled dark chocolate cookie chunks! I love the different texture of this one – creamy fudge with crunchy biscuits! A must try for all you Cookies and Cream fans!

CB598E1B-C6BD-4584-9207-F35DB8339FAF

Mocha

603E0045-89F6-4132-979E-D134E42C9FBB

The Mocha is a dark and milk chocolate based fudge which has been combined with  espresso for a rich, dark, coffee flavoured hit! Again, like the tiramisu, great for serving with coffee after dinner at a dinner party! It is really delicious but very rich! I couldn’t eat many of these in one sitting!

49330455-DBDA-488E-9023-55099FE79A91

Dulce De Leche

451556EC-B4F6-4455-A73F-8C9C0424AE42

Dulce De Leche is a white chocolate based fudge and is a smooth and creamy caramel flavoured fudge. I liked this one but not as much as the Salted Caramel because I like the combination of textures however, I’d imagine this flavour is still very popular!

147EC5FE-D044-4231-9711-22DACA8F6A3A

Cookie Dough

ED4131E4-4359-4CA2-A35C-D03DDF1ACF64

The Cookie Dough is a white chocolate based fudge with cookie dough swirled throughout to give it a great cookie dough flavour. This one is a Nellie Noo bestseller too and I can see why!

78FBA804-BCB9-4AED-B64E-3FA9A47A2612

You can order your Nellie Not fudge online here. The range of flavours on offer is so vast, I don’t think there will be a single person who wouldn’t find something they like! Some interesting flavours to keep an eye out for include Red Velvet, Sweet Carrot, Gin and Tonic and Lavender! They also have seasonal special (grab your Hot Cross Bun flavoured fudge whilst you still can!)

If you subscribe to email offers they will give you 10% off your first order and also have an offer of 3 selected fudges for £10!

Happy Birthday to me!

It’s wrong to say Happy Birth”day” to me because in actual fact I have a Birth-week not a Birth”day”! I always pack my Birthday week full of fun and days out with family and friends and this year was no exception!

Here’s what I got up to during this AMAZING week!

On Monday, Mum and I caught the megabus to London! Yes it takes ages but it cost us only £8 each for a return from Gloucester to London! The coach stops at Victoria Coach Station which just so happens to be a five-minute walk away from one of my favourite bakery’s in London – Dominique Ansel’s! So, we popped in here for breakfast before starting our busy London adventure!

AC4258F6-14BE-4BA1-BD03-193DB37EA9A5

I had an amazing turkey croque monsieur and one of their Blossoming hot chocolates, which I have wanted to try for ages!

I also had a delicious Cookie Shot, a shot glass sized cup made out of cookie and filled with delicious creamy vanilla milk! I bought a pack of six Cookie Shots to take home with me as well! The cakes in here are incredible – check out these lovely Blizzard Bear cakes!

After our lovely refreshment break we caught an Uber over to Kensington Palace. We had a lovely time here, so much so that I am writing a separate blog on this amazing place – the Diana Exhibition which is currently on was definitely an added bonus! Even better, we didn’t pay the entrance fee because we managed to pay for the tickets using our Tesco Clubcard vouchers!

After a few hours exploring Kensington Palace we moseyed on over to Cutter and Squidge for our Genie’s Cave afternoon tea! I really love attending these themed afternoon teas! I have been trying to get into the Tale as old as Time one for months but it is always fully booked. Then after going to the amazing Mad Hatter’s Tea Party afternoon tea in December last year I was on the hunt for something similar and came across the Genie’s Cave version! This was another brilliant experience with amazing food, so a a separate blog is to follow on this too! A word of warning though – the Genie’s Cave theme is due to end at the end of March so get booking if this is something you fancy!

78016E82-9837-4B22-992C-C77D1D4BEBFC

After stuffing our faces we wandered around and did the only thing we know best – bought more delicious treats to bring home with us! We visited Doughnut Time who sell THE BEST doughnuts ever! Move over KrispyKreme!

0083C7BF-3B34-49E9-9B11-4CDE99AB1CA4

After visiting all of our favourite food places we wandered slowly back over to Victoria Coach Station via Buckingham Palace to catch our coach home. What an amazing start to my Birthday week!

Tuesday was far less exciting but definitely a lovely day off – I basically got up at the normal time and got ready and then spent the morning in my local Starbucks catching up with writing my blogs and updating my Instagram and Twitter accounts. I managed to publish a blog every day in December for Blogmas, and over the Christmas holidays I had intended to get my blogs up to date and to have them scheduled several weeks in advance, but unfortunately this fell by the way-side and since mid-January I have been struggling to get my weekly weekend blog published. The week commencing 19th February I didn’t publish anything, which was the first time in a long time. I’ve found it especially hard to focus and get back into the blog writing since our lovely dog Skibba passed away last month as well. Anyway, today gave me a chance to catch up and draft as many blogs as possible, plus drink ridiculous amounts of my favourite coffee! A nice calm and relaxed morning!

After a few hours of getting square eyes I wandered over to the business park next door to have a look in some of the furniture stores to get some decorating ideas for our house. We’ve got the plasterer booked to plaster most of the upstairs and the dining room ceilings next week and after that we can get cracking with the decorating, so I need to start thinking about designs and colour schemes! I’m hoping by the time we have been in the house six months (beginning of June) I can write a blog about the progress we have made so far, but things are moving far slower than I had expected and the weeks and months just seem to be whizzing by!

Anyway, I came across some lovely dining room tables and chairs, bed frames and wallpaper and kitchens and nursery furniture so plenty of food for thought!

In the evening hubby and I went out for a lovely meal to Zizzi’s which is one of my favourite restaurants. Plus, we had £40 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers to spend in here, so it was practically a free meal which was brilliant!

On Wednesday, my Mum and I traveled over to the nearby town of Tewkesbury. I’ve always wanted to see Tewkesbury Abbey and, as it is not too far away, Tewkesbury seemed to be a lovely day out. It is a really beautiful building with lots of history so, you guessed it, a separate blog is to follow!

023A6FB8-4224-4AAB-AAF3-BBC6A966CFBD

After visiting the Abbey we grabbed lunch at a nearby restaurant called Café E Vino. The lunch was delicious and they had plenty of vegetarian and vegan options which I thought was very impressive! I had a delicious meal of gnocchi in a gorgonzola and speck sauce – really tasty!

After a hearty lunch we wandered down to the waters edge to see the river, although we didn’t hang around for long as it was absolutely freezing and the water level was really high after the recent snowfall had melted.

After a lovely day we hopped in the car to go and collect my amazing Birthday cake from Claire’s Cakes Cheltenham! Isn’t it beautiful!?

6A607500-DDE1-40F5-9AC6-890B5E72D333

She has made several cakes for us over the years including an amazing Winter Wonderland cake, two amazing Game of Thrones themed cakes and a Harry Potter themed cake! This year’s cake was a Geode cake and as usual she has outdone herself and made a spectacular creation! Can’t wait for friends and family to see it tomorrow!

Thursday was my actual Birthday so my Sister and I started the day going to Hubble Bubble, one of our favourite coffee houses, for one of their famous freakshakes! We tried the Easter edition this time!

08FE8108-FFE1-4E25-AA68-49476F2A5358

After our sugar overload we ventured into town for a bit of retail therapy,  coffee  and lunch. The centre of Gloucester isn’t great for shopping however Gloucester Quays Outlet Centre is only a short walk away so we spent most of our time here. I had planned for us to go to The Grill Shed for lunch but unfortunately I woke up this morning with a stinking cold so I didn’t feel up to having a big meal! We ended up having macaroni cheese in Costa instead which was just what we needed!

After our shopping trip I came home and prepared a little buffet for the family and friends who were popping over to visit me for my Birthday! It was really lovely to see everyone and catch up with them and after the buffet we all enjoyed a large slab of Birthday cake! My Mum and my Sister bought me some beautiful flowers and people came over with mounds of presents!

When everyone had gone I had the important task of opening all of my cards and gifts! I just hadn’t had the time so far! As usual, I’ve been absolutely spoilt! My Mum bought me the amazing shoes I included in my Valentine’s Day treats post (and believe me they look as good in real life as they did in that picture!)

EE4A6D4A-CDB5-4682-9383-4C219535C0B8

My Sister asked me if I wanted anything in particular but she knows me very well and is brilliant at present buying so I told her to surprise me! And she did! As well as my beautiful flowers she bought me a lovely pair of grey trainers, a keyring, a pen and a Columbo boxset! (I LOVE Columbo!!!)

Hubby asked me ages ago what I would like for my Birthday and I really couldn’t think of anything I wanted but as my Sister and I were walking through town today we walked past the Pandora shop to have a peep in the window. I’ve always wanted a Pandora bracelet and really love all the amazing charms you can get, but I have always worn gold jewellery, and all my existing jewellery is in gold! The gold bracelets and charms are available but are really, really expensive and I would never want to spend so much on a bracelet. Anyway, when we looked inside they were promoting the new Pandora Shine collection which is basically thick gold plated jewellery and obvious makes it far more affordable than the solid gold range, so it was as if it was meant to be!

So I had a beautiful gold Pandora bracelet and two charms from hubby in the end! I was so pleased to finally get one and he was pleased I had chosen something I really wanted for my Birthday! I’ve been very spoilt! I also had cash and vouchers from family and friends so I’ll take these with me when I’m working in London next week to see what lovely things I can find!

A perfect evening with family and friends – except the washing up afterwards of course!

The Friday was another brilliant day because I got to spend the day with my Sister and my Mum! It would have been nice to venture over to nearby Cheltenham as there’s plenty of places I would like to visit, but unfortunately my Birthday always lands in the middle of Race week at Cheltenham Racecourse, so Cheltenham and the surrounding areas are jam-packed with people! Even trying to get a restaurant reservation in Gloucester during this week is quite difficult so we thought it would be best to go a bit further afield and visit Blenheim Palace! It is only around an hour away from us and once again we were able to get our tickets using £8 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers! We’ve done extremely well over the years exchanging these vouchers for days out or restaurant vouchers!

Before we set off I wanted to treat my Mum and Sister to breakfast so I booked a table at one of our favourite restaurants for breakfast – Cote Brasserie. In fact, I’ve not been here for lunch or an evening meal, only for breakfast! I always have the Croque Monsieur – it is to die for!

After a hearty breakfast we set off for Blenheim Palace. I’ve wanted to visit here for a long, long time so I’m really pleased I finally got round to it! I definitely want to re-visit in December when they have the “Christmas at Blenheim Palace” theme going on. I can imagine the Palace will look even more beautiful at that time of the year!

4FC64686-384B-4189-8F0C-AC02CD4E45F4

We spent a few hours here, there is plenty to do and see and to be honest I really underestimated how big this place is! I will have to come back soon to finish looking at the parts of it we hadn’t got around to.

As a special treat I booked for the three of us to  have Afternoon Tea in the Orangery which was really lovely and the food was delicious.

B904E43B-09A4-43F7-B2B4-07090B5A4C20

We finally got home after sitting in traffic for ages and luckily I hadn’t made any plans for the evening, so this gave me the chance to have a sort through and edit all the photos I had taken this week (and to have a well earned rest and hot bath!)

On the Saturday night we went over to our friends house and they cooked us a delicious dinner, my friend also made me this beautiful cookie mermaid, rainbow and unicorn display! Isn’t it amazing? She’s so talented!

55DE5600-3F39-4E61-BC59-A899162C7076

She also bought me a mound of presents including some sparkly trainers, amazing cocktail liquors chocolates, keyrings and some amazing Pusheen slippers! I’ve been wearing them all weekend!

B75A5D4A-870C-40F2-9AF5-2AACA41AE6B2

Our friends only live about a 15 minute walk away so we walked home, and just in time really as shortly after we arrived home the “mini beast from the East” struck and it started heavily snowing again! I don’t ever remember there being snow around my Birthday before! Fingers crossed Spring will be here soon and we can start the Easter celebrations!

Another fantastic Birthday! I’m so grateful to have such great family and friends!

Valentine’s Day treats!

I never used to make an effort for Valentine’s Day, hubby and I always used to get each other a nice card, but I was never really sold on all of the red fluffy toys, fake red roses and red underwear! I love eating out but Valentine’s Day means all of the restaurants are absolutely jam-packed and are usually offering some sort of set menu, and I find that I don’t like the majority of food they have on offer!

So, to be honest, we usually stay at home and have a nice dinner together. My usual go to place is Marks and Spencers for their dine in for two Valentine’s Day offer for £20, which always has a nice selection of things we both like.

Last year I made a bit more of an effort and bought some lovely red roses for the dinner table, bought us a lovely three course meal and made us up a gift bag each with treats and presents in. We had a real nice time last year so I wanted to do something similar this year again.

Anyway, here are some of the lovely treats and presents which have caught my eye for this years Valentine’s Day:

Marks and Spencers chocolate heart filled with chocolate ganache and decorated with gold leaf – £3.00.

Christmas Cornflake Wreaths

B19F4191-A820-4C9B-93D4-496D54415342

Now the kids have broken up from school for Christmas, if you are looking for a really fun, easy and cheap treat to make then this is ideal!

To make the Cornflake Wreaths you will need:

-100g soft butter

-200g mini marshmallows

-125g cornflakes

-1 teaspoon of any flavouring you would like such as vanilla or orange – my favourite is almond!

-Spinkles!

To make the wreaths –

Put a piece of greaseproof paper on a surface ready for the wreaths to set on later.

Put the hob on a low heat and melt the butter and marshmallows in a large pan. Stir continuously until the ingredients are combined.

A9E40DC4-A670-4B7B-A2F3-E73DB4D59918

Take the pan off the heat and add any flavouring you want to use.

Add the cornflakes to the pan and crush them as you stir them so they are easier to shape later on, I find the smaller you crush the cornflakes the easier it is to shape them.

F4A2917B-BF19-43E8-A3B3-EA4210A50938

Make sure all the cornflakes are covered in the marshmallow mixture.

0CDCCDF7-C5E5-432C-8BC8-28929248F4EE

When the mixture has cooled down slightly, pull off a ball of mixture around the size of a golfball and flatten it on your baking paper – sounds easy right?? This is the hardest bit as it is REALLY messy! The kids will love it! Even flattening it is hard because the mixture sticks to EVERYTHING!!! Be prepared to get covered in goo!

You should end up with nine or ten wreaths after you’ve fought to flatten them onto the baking  paper.

7F8079AE-4A1F-4A18-97C2-0D318011A1BB

Once you’ve done this, use the end of a spoon to make a hole in the middle so they look “wreath-like”.

Fairly soon after you do this and before the mixture sets, you need to decorate your wreaths! Do this however you wish but I do find that red and green holly and berry decorations look really good, and I also add a few white stars on them too!!

08384216-16BC-47FA-87F1-376CF76A9053

Finally, sprinkle on some edible glitter and leave them for an hour or so (if you can!) to allow the mixture to set and then indulge!!!

Rocky Road Christmas Bars

2ADFB8FE-B6F6-43CC-8A13-46C1DE824831

My sister absolutely adores these and they are incredibly simple to make! This recipe will make you around 24 delicious squares.

-2 teaspoons icing sugar for dusting

-Edible glitter for dusting

-Put the biscuits into a large sandwich bag and then bash them with a rolling pin.

9F990A7C-CECF-4DAB-B11E-5220F0508386

-Tip the mixture into a tin which had been lined with greaseproof paper. Flatten the mixture as much as you can and then pour the remaining 125g of mixture over the mixture in the tray and smooth over the top.

141DC90B-3BC6-4ED4-AB63-07E903B622A7

-Put the mixture in the fridge for at least two hours.

012CFA58-A794-4971-90BC-884C36CA4B2A

-When the mixture is completely set, take it out of the tray and cut the mixture into around 24 squares.

-Sprinkle the icing sugar, edible glitter and snowflake sprinkles over the cake bars and viola! They are ready to be devoured!

They are brilliant to put into Christmas themed cellophane bags to give away as presents, or for stocking and Christmas Eve box gifts!

Happy scoffing peeps! xx

CocoChlo’s Christmas Countdown!

Ok so it’s official! Silly season has begun! You officially won’t get any sense out of me for at least the next 25 days!

In case you haven’t already guessed – Christmas is my most favourite time of year! I look forward to it months in advance and am severely down and depressed once it is over and we move into the long dark cold month of January. I know my love for Christmas annoys people but, in my view, you need to have something to look forward to, and holidays and Christmas are the two things which give me something to look forward to throughout the year!

Christmas for me mainly centres around the fantastic traditions that myself and my family have developed over the years – after all, knowing what you have to look forward to makes you look forward to it even more!

Here are some of the Christmas traditions my family and I partake in year after year and all the other little Christmassy/wintery things which I love about this time of the year!

Advent Calendars:

Hopefully you will have seen my two blogs on how to make the two different types of Advent Calendars we have in the family. If not, you can read about these here and here.

IMG_0928

IMG_0876

They take a LOT of time and effort to make but come out again and again year after year and make everyone very happy – all my family members look forward to opening their daily treats out of their Christmas Advent Calendars.

The calendars are filled during November with everyone’s favourite treats and then dropped off a few days before the beginning of December. In the past few years I have had to wrap up some of the treats (not fun! Twenty five presents times six people!), due to prying eyes and pokey fingers! And yes, all Advent Calendar recipients are adults!

Most of the days are filled with the likes of Cadbury’s chocolate mousse snowmen, Malteaser reindeers and tiny Lindt bears, and then an extra special gift awaits everyone for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (past years include baubles for the tree and personalised snow globes).

The perfect start to December!

Elf on the Shelf

Love him or hate him (hubby hates him!) Buddy will always make his annual appearance on the 1st December (apart from those days he is kidnapped and held hostage by hubby! Not joking!)

IMG_1285

Buddy plays a big part in helping to build the anticipation of the festive season, and often has some really good jokes and treats in store. This year Buddy has a particularly amazing surprise for the Evans’ which you can read about in Buddy’s very own blog which is being published in the next couple of days! #sorrynotsorry to all you Elf haters!

Buying our Christmas tree

We always had a real tree when we were growing up – my Mum, my two Sisters, the dog and I would walk miles to go and get one from the garden centre up the road (Mum can’t drive) and we would carry it all the way home, alternating between carrying the tree and walking the dog! When hubby and I first moved out and into our new home, I was over the top obsessed with keeping it clean and tidy and so, for fear of getting pine needles everywhere, I insisted on having a plastic tree for the first couple of years.

After a couple of years with this awful cheap plastic tree I decided enough was enough and we agreed we would buy a real tree the following Christmas. I was pleased to learn at this stage that there were a lot more trees around which didn’t drop their needles, so I was a double happy bunny!

We always get our tree the first weekend of December, which is usually around my Sisters Birthday. We usually buy it the Saturday morning and then get it home and set it up, and let the branches drop and the tree take shape for the next 24 hours.

Then on the Sunday we spend the day decorating it, listening to Christmas tunes and having hot chocolate and other Christmas themed treats! The trees usually get named at some point too….

Christmas shopping

My work organise an annual coach trip to London on the first Wednesday of December which is absolutely brilliant. The coach drops off at two places – Harrods (also ideal for visiting the Museums) and the corner of Hyde Park.

I usually go with my Sister and Mum and we’ve done all sorts during these trips – we took Mum to Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland one year, and visited the Ice Bar and Ice Sculpture display, the following year we spent a couple of hours in Harrods food hall and then popped over the road and spent the rest of the day in the Natural History Museum (which we concluded you would need to spend a week in in order to see everything!) followed by a couple of years of good old retail therapy down good old Oxford Street! I always pop into Primark as well to see if I can find any last minute stocking fillers or bits to go in my Christmas Eve boxes!

The beautiful London department store windows are another one of the highlights! My two favourites are Harrods and Selfridges – the designers must spend months in advance coming up with these amazingly creative ideas! Good luck getting a photo of some of them though – they obviously attract an awful lot of people so get in there quick to catch a glimpse!

Festive Days Out

Sudeley Castle Spectacle of Light, Longleat Safari Park, Prinknash Abbey, and a ride on The Polar Express – you name it we have probably been there and partaken in their Christmas-themed festivities!

IMG_7284

IMG_7149

IMG_7164

Christmas Markets

I really love Christmas markets and the family and I have been to several over the years! I don’t go to them to do my main Christmas shopping but to try the amazing food and drink and check out the brilliant arts and crafts people make – some people are so creative!

At Gloucester Quays Christmas Markets last year they opened an ice skating rink and lots of little wooden huts around the outside which served mulled wine, hot apple cider, hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts! Just what you need to get into the Christmas spirit, although I do get there very early so I can get around quickly before the crowds arrive! Some places become unbearable at peak times!

Festive Drinks – Coffees, Hot Chocolate and Eggnog!

Most days in December usually feature a trip to Starbucks, Costa or Café Nero to sample this year’s Festive coffee and hot chocolate flavours! Yes, a blog on these is to follow too! Sorry!

IMG_5503

Obviously hot chocolates can be consumed throughout the year but there’s something different about a Christmas hot chocolate! Perhaps it is the lack of guilt you feel when you spray on mounds of whipped cream and tip half a box of marshmallows on top!

A favourite of mine is to add a tiny bit of cinnamon and nutmeg to really make it taste like Christmas in a mug! I buy all my hot chocolates from Whittards – they are the best by far in my opinion! This years flavours I invested in are Dark Hot Chocolate, Praline White Hot Chocolate, Rocky Road Hot Chocolate and Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate! Delicious!

580F197A-A91A-472F-B046-C3A44A696260

I am also absolutely obsessed with eggnog! Is there a more Christmassy drink than eggnog!? If Starbucks ever stopped producing their eggnog lattes I don’t know what I would do!

Monin Syrups

If you want to make your own flavoured coffees or hot chocolates, I recommend you take a look at the collection of flavours Monin Syrups have to offer – there aren’t many flavours you can’t get hold of, and every year I struggle to choose which to buy next! I finally decided on Donut, Maple Spice, Amaretto and Macaron flavours!

3802A787-4F27-4A45-93A4-1CB7A8C2BCCD

Christmas Adverts

Am I the only one who cries at these flipping adverts??? Lost Snowman looking for their partner….in tears, Buster the Boxer jumping on a trampoline…..in tears, Monty the penguin – so cute (in tears), the Sainsburys WW1 truce between British and German soldiers for Christmas Day….hysterical. I really do need to stop watching them to be fair! Anyway, every year they get more and more amazing and more and more heartfelt, it wouldn’t be Christmas without them!

Choosing the Christmas menu!

By the end of October I will have picked up several copies of each supermarkets festive food catalogues! I usually pick them up from Marks and Spencers, Asda, Tescos and Morrisons so we can all look at the full range everyone has to offer!

The family all meet in late October/early November to decide what food we are going to have on the days we are all going to be together (usually Christmas Day and Boxing Day or both). Everyone in my family has different tastes so it is quite difficult to choose things which most people will like!

You can read more about what is on the Christmas menu this year in my “what’s on the menu this Christmas” blog which is published on the 23rd December, but these will give you an idea…

Christmas Jumpers

Since Christmas jumpers came back into fashion a couple of years ago (the cheesier the better it seems!) I somehow now have an array of seasonal knitwear! It would seem I am a bit addicted, as every year they bring out better and sillier designs! Hubby had a jumper last year with actual flashing lights on! Amazing!

Visits to the Cinema

What better way to get into the seasonal spirit than by visiting the cinema to watch a Christmassy film!!! Past cinema visits have included to watch Frozen, Bad Santa, Black Christmas and Krampus (ok so a couple of them are horror films, but still Christmassy!) This year I already have my sights set on two films – Bad Mom’s Christmas and Pitch Perfect 3! Can’t wait!

If I don’t have time to get to the cinema as I am spending my free weekends wrapping up the mounds of presents, I’ll always have some classic Christmas films on in the background whilst drinking my Christmassy hot chocolate! A blog on my favourite Christmas films will follow in a few days time!

Gingerbread Making

Gingerbread Houses – I love gingerbread but only the home made stuff which is lovely and fluffy and soft – not the hard shop bought stuff that you nearly break your teeth on!

For the first few years I was buying the shop bought sets (basically it was easier because all the pieces were pre-made so I could spend more time decorating them!) but I realised after making them that they didn’t get eaten because the gingerbread was rock hard! So my mother in law bought me a cookie cutter set which meant I could make proper gingerbread and cut out the pieces I needed to make my gingerbread house!

This year I spent the afternoon making gingerbread houses with my Sister and it was absolutely brilliant! We really enjoyed ourselves and it really got us into the Christmas spirit! I hope we make it an annual event from now on!

Christmas Yankee Candles

My family and I always buy Christmas themed Yankee Candles to burn throughout the festive season and I also put one in everyone’s Christmas Eve boxes for them to burn the night before the big day. Check out some of this years scents –

Nutcracker Dolls

An obsession of mine! If you are intrigued, a separate blog on these little guys is coming out in the next couple of days….

IMG_1120

Christmas Eve boxes

Unfortunately I am one of those annoying people who has usually bought all of the main Christmas presents and got them wrapped up before December even starts as this frees me up the time to do all of these other amazing things throughout December! I do tend to leave buying little things like stocking fillers until December though.

In December I will also start buying bits and pieces to go in everyone’s Christmas Eve boxes! Hopefully you will have read my blogs I released last year on how to make them and what you can put in them – if not you can read about them here and here.

IMG_0693

Last year was the first time I unveiled the Christmas Eve boxes but they were so popular and loved by everyone that I promised I would make them a regular thing. The only thing is, I went a bit mental last year with it being the first year and so everyone got a lot in their boxes in addition to their normal pressies, so this year I asked everyone what their favourite bits were and I have limited it to four or five items, and a few sweets and treats.

Now December is here I will start looking for some good surprises to sneak into people’s Christmas Eve boxes to make Christmas Eve that little bit more special! This year’s box contents will be revealed in my Christmas Eve blog so watch this space!

Post-Christmas themed parties

The family and I are all very lucky in that we all tend to get at least a week off over the Christmas period. As we are all avid Christmas fans, once Boxing Day has come and gone and we are in the few days between Christmas and New Year, the post-Christmas blues start to set in.

To cheer us up after the main event has come and gone, and to give us something else to look forward to (and OCD organiser Chloe to organise!), I usually throw a small family themed party for my Mum, my Sisters and myself. Past themes have included Harry Potter, Frozen and The Polar Express! This year’s theme is Beauty and the Beast, so I have been scouring eBay and Primark for months and months looking for ideas and treats to go in everyone’s goody bags!

Yes it’s cheesy/corny/childish but it cheers us all up and gives us the chance to spend some time together over Christmas without the added pressure of running around to check the turkey, prepare the veg and grab someone another drink. Plus my older sister Lindsey, who has autism, really looks forward to the parties (and the opportunity to get some more presents, even after Christmas is over!) I’ll do a separate blog about this year’s party so you can see what a great time we had this year!!!

Time off

What could be better than some time off work to celebrate and then rest and re-cooperate?? By the time my Christmas leave comes around I’ve usually got huge lists of bits and pieces I want to get done during my time off! The first few days off are usually Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day but after clearing up after these celebrations I always feel really down that Christmas has come and gone for another year, so I like to keep myself busy!

One of the regular tasks which appears this time of year includes sorting through mine and hubby’s wardrobes – throwing out/giving to charity the old stuff, putting aside stuff which needs repairing or dry cleaning, eBay-ing any unwanted valuable stuff and making space for the new stuff we got for Christmas or during the sales! The rest of the time hubby and I spend watching DVD’s or Netflix whilst eating the left over Christmas goodies! I’m afraid the majority of this time off is spent in my pyjamas!

Anyway, this just about wraps up my plans for December! No wonder it flies by so quickly!! And no wonder they call it the most wonderful time of the year!

Enjoy everyone!

The Naked Marshmallow Company

If you are looking for a lovely Winter treat then check out this amazing idea!

I love all the American programmes which show everyone sitting round the camp fire toasting marshmallows and making S’mores, but unfortunately, living in the UK with such unpredictable weather all year round, its a risk trying to partake in marshmallow toasting even in the Summer!

Anyway, now you can toast marshmallows all year round with this amazing Marshmallow Toasting Kit from The Naked Marshmallow Company!

The kit costs £19 and includes any two packs of their gourmet marshmallows, with each pack containing eight marshmallows.

You can choose from five different flavours – Vanilla Bean, Candy Floss, Strawberry Cream, Chocolate Orange and Salted Caramel (if you want to order additional flavours you can add more boxes at £4.25 each). They have even got a Christmas range of flavours out at the moment too, such as Gingerbread and Candy Cane!

The marshmallows are made in the UK and are made from fair-trade sugar and have no artificial colours or flavours in them.

We tried four out of the five regular flavours (no-one likes chocolate orange in our family unfortunately!) and all of them were AMAZING! I have honestly never tasted more delicious marshmallows, even those I’ve bought from food festivals and markets!

Each kit comes with eight bamboo sticks and a non-toxic, odourless, smokeless gel burner which will burn constantly for two hours. If you don’t burn it all at once you can simply pop the lid back on to extinguish the flame and then use again whenever you fancy!

41640B80-B050-4808-9A89-F4DDBF899EE5

The kit also comes in a gift box with a little printed guide on “how to toast the perfect marshmallow”, so is ideal to give as a present – if you are giving as gifts you can pay an additional £2 to have the burner label personalised as well!

7ED8EFA8-CEFC-4A81-B3EB-3C8C232C0488

My favourite flavour was the candy floss one (closely followed by the salted caramel!) but the vanilla bean and strawberry cream were favoured by other guests so the flavours obviously cater for all different tastes too!

Even better, when I placed my order, standard delivery was free! I’ve gone to checkout on several online bakeries and food websites to find that the delivery costs are extortionate, so this was a real added bonus!

The family and I really enjoyed using the kit and I would definitely buy it again, and buy it for family and friends as presents – it’s certainly something a little bit different!

Just don’t forget to put your burner on a heat-proof surface! The last thing you want is to leave burn marks on your furniture!

If you want to take the toasting marshmallows kit one stage further, you can also order their marshmallow S’more’s kit! The kit contains eight marshmallows, eight Graham Crackers, three Hershey chocolate bars and of course your gel burner, eight bamboo sticks and a guide on how to make the perfect S’more!

I’ll definitely have to try this kit next time I put an order in!

A Lush Halloween!

Woohoo! I’ve been looking forward to getting hold of this years Lush Halloween collection for absolutely ages! They do have some products which come back year after year but also release several new exciting products! Here are the lovely Lush autumn warmers I recommend for this time of year;

Ghost Shower Gel

This was released as part of a Game of Thrones themed Lush kitchen week and I couldn’t wait to try it because all the reviews I have seen have been really positive!

IMG_6935

Ghost has the scent of lillies, jasmine, ylang ylang and neroli and is made with rose water and dove orchid infusion, so I was obviously expecting a bouquet of floral scents. The rose water scent is lovely and isn’t  overpowering, and you can also smell the sweetness of the jasmine and the almost grassy aroma of the neroli.

The shower gel also contains jojoba oil to moisturise and soften the skin, and you can notice this straight after using it. Due to the oils in the gel, it doesn’t lather up incredibly well, creating more of a foam than a lather, but this really doesn’t matter when you see the moisturising effect it has on your skin.

054C9C8D-BF84-490E-973F-B7B172E6A2ED

The gel also contains snowflake lustre which gives it its shimmering texture, but it doesn’t leave you absolutely covered in glitter after using it, in fact it is a very very subtle shimmer.

I really liked this shower gel but not sure I would buy it again, which surprised me after the rave reviews it received from other Lushie’s – flowery scent’s just really aren’t my bag and I didn’t really think the scent went very well with the name? Maybe it is just me…

Monsters Ball Bath Bomb

I couldn’t wait to get hold of a few of these little guys as they have had such good reviews online! Aren’t they great!?

IMG_9962

Monster’s Ball contains lime and neroli oil and this bath bomb gives off a bright, zesty lime smell. It also includes olibanum oil so overall the bath bomb is great for cleansing as well as softening, healing and hydrating purposes! Just what is needed on those cold October nights!

IMG_0134

As if that isn’t enough, this lovely bomb also contains Himalayan rock salt and cocoa butter! The rock salt is great as a natural healer to hydrate the skin and the Cocoa butter of course moisturises for some time after you step out of the bath.

The cocoa butter forms the centre of the bath bomb, which dissolves slowly once the rest of the bomb has disappeared and adds just enough oil to the bath so the water doesn’t become greasy.

IMG_0139

The bath art you get as a result of the lovely pink and blue colours which come streaming out also make this bath bomb a worth while choice! The combination of the pink and blue colours leave you with a lovely deep purple coloured water – in my opinion, the best bath water colour from a bath bomb so far!!

Just to think I only bought this bath bomb because I thought it looked like a great novel design but it has actually turned out to be one of my most favourite! Better stock up on a few whilst the Halloween range is available!

The only downside was that I didn’t find the scent to be strong enough for me, and it didn’t last as long long on my skin after the bath as I had hoped it would. But still, a highly recommended bath bomb!

Lord of Misrule Shower Cream

This was another scent I had heard lots about and couldn’t wait to try! It is bright green in colour and as this is the first of Lush’s shower creams I have tried, I was surprised at how much thicker it is compared to normal shower gel.

IMG_9982

Lord of Misrule shower cream contains patchouli and black pepper which gives it it’s very distinctive and unusual fragrance! To add a layer of sweetness it also contains vanilla absolute which also reduces the kick of the black pepper. It also contains wheatgerm oil which is full of nutrients including vitamin A, B and D to condition the skin, and vitamin E which is known for reducing skin damage.

40967A47-3AA4-4737-85AE-8FC0C2A1773A

Use your shower cream in exactly the same way you do your shower gel – I found it  funny because the label on the shower cream says under the how to use section “if you really don’t know how then we suggest you find someone you really like and invite them into the shower with you to demonstrate”. Brilliant!

Anyway, I lather it up in a sponge which turns it into a nice thick foam. Immediately it feels really lovely and moisturising on the skin, and for several hours after you step out of the shower too. The scent also lasts a long time afterwards, and the smell is really gorgeous! I am really looking forward to using the Lord of Misrule bath bombs now too! Another favourite scent to add to the list! Why are most of my favourite scents seasonal??? I will have to bulk buy some more before they stop making them until next autumn!

Bewitched Bubble Bar

The Bewitched bubble bar is new for Halloween 2017 and I’ve seen some really good reviews of it so far! Doesn’t it look great!?

IMG_9985

As with all my other bubble bars I cut this one up and crumbled it (it was quite difficult to cut with a knife so go carefully!) and then sprinkled about a third of it under running bath water. This bubble bar isn’t very big but don’t let that fool you into using too much – some people have halved it and found this to be a bit too overindulgent! You should easily get three baths out of one of these bubble bars.

It created mounds of lovely bubbles and made the bath water a dark grey colour which I am pleased to say didn’t leave any marks on the bath afterwards!

This bubble bar contains blackberry and bergamot and frankincense oils and is one of the nicest smells I’ve had in a bubble bar! The oils made the water incredibly moisturizing and I didn’t want to get out of the bath once I was in because of its amazing scent and moisturizing effect!!!

I bought three of these in the end so I am well stocked up and a couple of these will be appearing in my famous Halloween goody bags I give to friends and family too!

Black Rose Naked Lip Scrub

I’ve not tried a naked lip scrub before (no little glass pot so it saves on packaging) so I wasn’t really too sure what to expect. I have to admit I don’t find it ideal – if you are using it on your lips one end then it means that you are handling it the other end which only makes me think of germs building up each time you are using it! Still, I can see why they have introduced them.

IMG_9965

The naked lip scrub is like a little bar of soap! I was really pleasantly surprised when I used it – go steady as you swipe it across your lips to buff and smooth as it really does give your lips a harsh scrub if you do it too hard!

The scrub contains illipe butter, extra virgin coconut oil, mood lifting ylang ylang and Sicilian mandarin oils. The caster sugar content exfoliates and keeps your lips soft and smooth whilst the organic jojoba oil moisturises.

I was really impressed with the design and found it easier and far less messy to use than the normal pots of lip scrubs – I am definitely going to buy some more of the available scrubs in this design!

Pumpkin Bath Bomb

A perfect little Halloween bath bomb and one which returns year after year!

Pumpkin bath bomb contains vanilla absolute and pimento berry and is designed to give off an aroma reminiscent of pumpkin pie! The funny thing is, although I love the smell of this bath bomb – I don’t even like pumpkin! I just get excited when it is the time of year that pumpkin flavoured items are released as it means Autumn is finally on the way! This includes Pumpkin Spiced Lattes at Starbucks!

IMG_9964

This bath bomb has a lovely strong flavour which is apparent as soon as you open your Lush parcel! On some occasions the scent almost smelt fruity, which was something I wasn’t expecting! The bath bomb also contains cinnamon and vanilla which gives it its lovely autumnal warming scent which is definitely something I would describe as a “home baking” scent.

IMG_0172

This one is a fast fizzer (seriously – gone in seconds!) which let off streams of orange coloured fizz which was followed by a lovely yellow coloured core. The smell remained strong during my bath and stayed on my skin for a long time afterwards too! It doesn’t put on much of a show as it is gone so quickly but you can’t have everything can you??

Not the most moisturising of bath bombs and I wish the cinnamon scent was stronger, as cinnamon is my favourite scent, but Pumpkin is still an incredibly enjoyable bath bomb which left my skin feeling lovely and soft – I can see why it is a firm favourite in the Halloween collection!

Magic Wand Soap

I don’t normally buy soaps from Lush as I am not a soap person (I prefer shower gels, jellies and creams!) as I find soaps quite drying on my skin, but when I saw the soap range that Lush had released for Halloween and Christmas I knew I just had to try them!

IMG_9979

This lovely looking soap features tangerine oil and orange oil (two of my favourite scents!) and pomegranate molasses which give this soap a lovely strong, fruity scent. The scent isn’t very strong until you actually start using the soap, but it is amazing once you start lathering it onto your skin! Both of these fruits are natural cleansers and are great on the skin for clearing out pores.

The soap also features charcoal (its black outer core) and coconut oil. The charcoal is a great exfoliator and of course coconut oil is great for moisturising and replenishing the skin. I was slightly worried that the black charcoal colour would stain my skin or the tiles in the shower but fear not – although the soaps lather was a dark grey colour as a result of the charcoal, it didn’t stain anything and just washes away with water which is great (I’m still getting over cleaning up the mess after the Dark Arts jelly bomb – I think I am scarred for life after that one!)

When you order a soap from Lush they arrive in rather large chunks, so fellow Lushie’s do tend to cut a chunk off to use, rather than taking the entire block into the bath/shower. Don’t cut the pieces of soap too small though – they are slippery and difficult to keep hold of anyway so it would make it even worse if you are trying to keep hold of a tiny piece!

I’m so pleased I took the risk and bought this one – it didn’t leave my skin feeling dry afterwards (which is what I experience with normal soaps) and the smell is really lovely, and definitely one of my top Lush scents.

IMG_0691

Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb

Obviously the same scent as the Lord of Misrule shower cream I’ve already covered, apparently this bath bomb is inspired by the the ruler of the Pagan Feast of Fools!

IMG_9973

Again containing ingredients of black pepper and patchouli oil with vanilla absolute, this bath bomb almost looked a bit Christmassy due to its bright green colour with specks of pink and white.

This bath bomb was a violent but very slow fizzer – after fifteen minutes it was still going! It is very hypnotic though! After a lot of green fluffy foam, eventually the centre cracks open and out comes this very dark red centre! It is very fascinating to watch!

The water goes from a light green colour to a dark red colour once the centre cracks open but remember to warn the husband/boyfriend of this because when mine poked his head round the bathroom door he thought there had been a horrible accident! I’m not really selling this am I?! Let me put it another way – the end result bath water is one of the most stunning colours I have seen from a bath bomb!

It definitely suits its name – calming green followed by chaotic splashes of red which completely transform the water – this is definitely one of my favourites and is very beautiful to watch!

IMG_0486

The scent is quite strong but not off-putting – you can definitely smell the pepper in it and  it lingers for a long time after you’ve hopped out of the bath.

I wish this bath bomb was a member of the permanent range! Love, love, love it!

Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar

The Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar is bright gold and orange and is COVERED in glitter! The scent isn’t one of my favourites, but it is definitely autumnal!

IMG_9974

The bubble bar is made using lime, juniperberry and grapefruit oils, so it has a warming, zesty and almost woody scent. It also contains lime oil for a bit of a citrus twist and cinnamon stick (the “pumpkin” stem).

It isn’t a particularly big bubble bar – I sliced mine and cut it up like I do with my other bubble bars and found it fit into a much smaller pot than my usual bubble bars. I reckon you will get maybe three baths’ worth out of each one of these little glitter balls.

If you don’t fancy cutting it all up, slice a chunk off and then just crumble it under running water – be warned though – the glitter on the outside of the bubble bar will go everywhere!

Whichever way you break up your bubble bar, once it is crumbled under running water you get a bath full of lovely fluffy bubbles. After having my bath I was expecting to be covered head to toe in glitter, but the glitter was actually subtle in the bath water and didn’t stick to my skin at all. Even better, there was no glitter left in the bath tub at all afterwards, and it all just washed away with the bath water.

IMG_0547

I found the scent of the bubble bar to be relaxing, but not quite as strong as I would like. It also wasn’t as moisturising as some of the other bubble bars I have used, although my skin did feel lovely and soft afterwards.

I enjoyed using the Sparkly Pumpkin bar but it wasn’t one of my favourites. I bought a couple as soon as the Lush Halloween range was released – would I buy it again? Not sure, the smell is growing on me each time I use it….

Hedgewitch Soap

As I said with the Magic Wand soap, I am not really a soap fan in general but I was completely captivated with the Halloween and Christmas range of soaps so I ordered a few to try, and I am so pleased I did!!

I can’t even begin to explain how amazing this soap smells! It is really incredible and I have used it everyday since I bought it! I will definitely have to buy myself several more before the Halloween range is no longer on sale! I’ve bought one for my Mum and Sister too!

IMG_9968

I cut a chunk off my soaps so I use them just a bit at a time and keep the remainder in a sealed Tupperware box for freshness.

This soap contains honeysuckle flower infusion, cocoa butter, coconut oil, organic caster oil, Sicilian mandarin oil, osmanthus absolute and gardenia extract – I think I would go so far as to say this is my absolute favourite soap EVER. It lathers up really nicely (I lather it up on a sponge) and the smell is so addictive that I find myself lathering up several more sponges full of soapy bubbles just to savour the scent for a little bit longer!

Honestly, if you are passing a Lush store, go in and ask them to smell this soap and let me know what you think!

Ectoplasm Jelly Bomb

I couldn’t wait to try this one! A bath bomb named after the green slime that ghosts vomit all over people in films like Ghostbusters!

A relatively harmless looking purple jelly bomb with yellow dots and a little ghost shape on top, Ectoplasm smells absolutely incredible! It contains tangerine, grapefruit and litsea cubeba oil which gives off a gentle zesty lemony kind of scent, which is very refreshing and uplifting.

IMG_8495

This jelly bomb appears to start fizzing quite quickly but overall the bomb took ages to dissolve, and after around half an hour I actually crushed it up in my hands to try and get it to dissolve a little bit quicker! Even after this there were big chunks of the bomb left floating in the bath which I found a bit disappointing!

I was also disappointed because it didn’t let off much jelly – just a bit of purple coloured whisps, and (due to the name) I assumed it would at least resemble something green and slimy which wouldn’t look out of place in a horror movie! You did get a few blobs of fluorescent slime though which was pretty cool!

The smell was incredible and I would buy it again just for the scent, but it was the most disappointing jelly bomb I have tried, jelly wise! I stocked up on a few of these to put in family and friends Halloween gift boxes which I do every year, I hope they aren’t disappointed with them!!

IMG_8534

Goth Fairy Shimmer Bar

I must admit I was quite surprised at how small this little buy was when he arrived because he wasn’t particularly cheap (£5.95 I think), so I was expecting something around the size of a small bubble bar!

IMG_9978

This cute little guy contains grapefruit and bergamot but has an almost creamy blackcurrant scent which is really lovely – definitely more a “berry” fragrance than a “citrus” fragrance. The bar also contains cupuacu, illipe and almond butters and oils for moisturizing.

The idea behind the Goth Fairy Shimmer Bar is to apply your normal moisturizer and then use the shimmer bar on top to add a beautiful scent and a layer of sparkle on your skin. You can use it as the sole moisturizer if you like but due to the size, you would probably end up getting through a bar quite quickly.

When you use the bar it melts slightly due to the warmth of your skin but it is not sticky or messy like some products of a similar nature, such as a massage bar. You can even add the product to your face as part of your makeup routine! It would make quite a nice highlighter I think!

I found the bar to be really moisturizing as well as really effective due to its shimmer, and I didn’t have to wait ages for the butters and oils to be absorbed into my skin.

Be warned that I found the lustre quite difficult to remove – so take it easy if you don’t want to turn up to a business conference looking like a mermaid! Even after having a bath I still found some of the gold, green, silver and purple lustre on my skin a day or so later! Its is very difficult to catch the full shimmery effect on camera but this might give you an idea –

AB9399F8-7AE5-4AC7-A772-BA3ED355C78F

Due to this I would probably only use the bar when going on a girls night out or to a party, and as I don’t do this very often (I’m usually spending my time at work, in the gym, walking the dogs or in my pyjamas watching Netflix or blogging!) so it probably isn’t a product I would use very often. Having said that, I did buy a couple for my sister and best friend to use because I think they are cute and again would be something they would use before a girls night out!

Pink Pumpkin Bubble Bar

To be honest I wasn’t really looking forward to using this bubble bar because I was a bit disappointed with the sparkly pumpkin version and in my mind I tarred these two with the same brush!

Pink Pumpkin is a lighter more floral scent as it contains geranium oil, bergamot oil and jasmine absolute alongside some cinnamon stick which acts as the pumpkin “stem” decoration. I cut the bubble bar up as I would normally and sprinkled a handful under running bath water. Pink Pumpkin produces a mass of lovely fluffy bubbles and turns the water a beautiful rose pink colour. I am not normally a fan of floral scents but I preferred this scent to that of the Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar.

IMG_9986

The thing I was most surprised about with pink pumpkin was how moisturising it was when I got in the bath. You could feel the oils moisturising your skin straight away but without the bath water being oily so it would still be ok to wash your hair in. It was in fact probably one of the most moisturising baths I have had and a bath I really didn’t want to get out of! So pleasantly surprised with this one!

So there you have it – this years Lush Halloween range! I have already purchased the Christmas range too which is HUGE this year so by the time you read this blog I will be well underway trying out these lovely seasonal products!

Keep an eye out for my Christmas Lush blogs in December which will form part of my “Blogmas” attempt this year!

Kylie Lip Kits and Glosses

IMG_3939

Hello makeup lovers! It’s about time I wrote a blog about some of my favourite makeup products!

I wasn’t sure about writing a blog about Kylie Lip kits, as although I love makeup and cosmetics, I’m not very outgoing with the colours I choose and I tend to stick with “safe” colours such as varying shades of nudes!

However I do love the Kylie Lip Kits and glosses and have already ordered several, so I think they are definitely worth a mention!

IMG_4881

One thing I do find frustrating about the Kylie Cosmetics range is that items are currently only available to order directly through the Kylie Cosmetics website and, living in the UK, this means high delivery charges and then, even more annoyingly, customs charges are then charged on top! This means reasonably priced cosmetics end up costing you a pretty penny in the end! My advice? Make a note which items you want to order and keep an open for buy one get one free offers on the lip kits! These buy one get one free offers do come up quite regularly and will of course save you money on products and money on postage if you buy a few items at a time! Keep your eyes peeled on the Kylie Cosmetics Instagram page where these special offers are usually announced! Make sure you get in early though as products sell out very, very fast!

The Kylie Lip Kits consist of one liquid lipstick and one pencil liner. I’ve only bought the matte variety of kits so far but they are also available in the velvet variety. The lip liner is an ultra long wearing lip liner with a creamy texture which glides on very easily. The lip liner can be sharpened in most standard sized sharpeners. The matte liquid lipstick contains a “high intensity pigment” which is extremely long wearing but also very moisturising, so the long wearing of the lipstick does not dry out your lips.

Anyway, the Kylie Kip Kit and glosses I have tried so far are:

Maliboo Lip Kit

Maliboo is recommended for use on fair to light and light to medium skin tones and is a light cool-tone nude colour.

IMG_6635
Maliboo

It is my favourite lip kit colour so far and I’ve already stocked up in case it is discontinued!

Moon Lip Kit

Moon is recommended for use on light to medium skin tones and is a taupe nude colour.

IMG_6636
Top to bottom Maliboo and Moon

Exposed Lip Kit

Exposed is a warm mid-tone beige colour.

IMG_6639
Top to bottom Maliboo, Moon and Exposed

Dolce K Lip Kit

Dolce K is a deep beige nude colour.

IMG_6640
Top to bottom Maliboo, Moon, Exposed and Dolce K

and the glosses I have tried so far are:

King K Metal Matte Lipstick

King K is a soft metallic gold colour. The Metal Lipstick gives you bold metallic lips with a creamy feel and smooth texture.

While this is a long wearing formula, again it does not dry out your lips. Throughout the day your lips remain moisturised with a shimmering metallic finish.

Many people layer the King K lipstick over the top of their favourite matte lipstick for an ultra-dramatic look.

IMG_6643
Top to bottom Maliboo, Moon, Exposed, Dolce K and King K

Literally Gloss

Literally is a neutral mid-tone nude. I especially love this gloss because Kylie Cosmetics sent it to me for free when I placed an order during their last buy one get one free offer, as an apology for making me wait for my order because some items were out of stock! Bonus!

The glosses are again ultra-pigmented and glide on the lips smoothly and evenly. A blend of vitamin E and highly moisturising ingredients provide hydration and moisturise the lips, while natural lip enhancers provide volume.

Again you can wear the Literally Gloss alone or layer on top of your favorite Matte Liquid Lipstick.

IMG_6649
Top to bottom Maliboo, Moon, Exposed, Dolce K, King K and Literally

I hope this has given you an idea of the product –  I do tend to go for the same nude/neutral colours however the website stocks a huge variety of everyday favourites and really unusual colours! I doubt you will go onto the website and not find a colour which is perfect for you!

As these products are only currently available directly through the Kylie Cosmetics website, please please be wary of all the fakes that are doing the rounds on places like eBay. Even the fakes are very difficult to spot so cost wise, if they look too good to be true, they probably are – don’t waste your money or risk buying cosmetics filled with god knows what ingredients!!

A really highly recommended product – I just hope they will soon be more easily available in UK stores!

Winky Lux Lip Balms

A few months ago I came across these amazing lip balms on Instagram and I knew as soon as I saw them that I had to have them in every colour!

IMG_3334

Check out these Flower Balm Jelly Lip Stains by Winky Lux!

This balm stain applies on clear then reacts with your skin’s pH levels, uniquely creating the perfect shade of pink lips!

IMG_3333

Each Flower Balm contains a real chrysanthemum in the colour of your choice. Plus these amazing balms are coconut scented!

IMG_4507

So far I have found the balms with Green, Yellow and Pink flowers, but there are also Blue and Purple versions available. I’ve bought several for friends for their Birthday’s and they absolutely loved them!

You can order your Winky Lux Flower balms from Beauty Bay (£13.00 each) or I recently came across this set from ASOS where you get the Pink, Yellow and Green balms for £25.00 with a lovely free gold makeup bag – this set sells out very quickly because you save 35% on the total cost of the three balms so grab it while you can!
